Millrise Place’s Big Bike Challenge Raises $10,000 for Alberta Heart & Stroke
Fundraiser highlights importance of having annual physical check-ups and blood pressure monitored regularly
Millrise Place employees take Big Bike Challenge to raise $10,000 for Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT & Nunavut.
Fish Creek Park, Calgary, Alberta (October 03, 2011) – A loud and energetic group of Millrise Place employees armed with water guns and plenty of enthusiasm took the Alberta Heart and Stroke Challenge Bike challenge as they navigated the 30-seat bike around a two kilometre course in Fish Creek Park in southeast Calgary to raise $10,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT & Nunavut.

Carole Kelly Millrise Place’s Executive Director of Care explained that the Big Bike Challenge is a great vehicle for having group fun while sending an important message to both Millrise employees and the general public.
“Every seven minutes in Canada someone dies from heart disease or stroke. As an assisted living facility for seniors, Millrise Place takes this message to heart. It’s important to remind our employees and our residents to have annual physical check-ups and have their blood pressure monitored regularly.”
Prior to the event, employees performed warm up exercises and cheers to get ready for the Big Bike Challenge. Following the fund raising event, participants were rewarded with a “heart healthy” lunch at Millrise Place.
